Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized the significant shift in public attitudes towards cleanliness, attributing this change to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachhata initiative.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2024’ campaign at Paramveer Peeru Singh Government Senior Secondary School in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, Shri Dhankhar remarked, “Prime Minister Modi’s declaration from the Red Fort on August 15, 2014, stands as the most revolutionary step of the past decade, symbolizing ongoing transformation in the nation. Over the last ten years, this campaign, driven by the Prime Minister’s efforts, has led to a profound and widespread change in people’s attitudes towards cleanliness.”

Highlighting the crucial role of public involvement in cleanliness, the Vice-President pointed out that the lack of toilets in the country had been a significant issue, which has now been addressed through this campaign. He mentioned, “The dignity of women was at stake, and this large-scale mission is now evident in various aspects of development.”

Emphasizing the multifaceted nature of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, Shri Dhankhar urged for a commitment to integrate cleanliness with character, values, and culture. Reflecting on the newly launched initiative, Vice-President Dhankhar remarked, “After a decade, we are witnessing a fresh start. This campaign should transcend mere cleanliness, fostering a shift in our mindset, habits, and lifestyle, ultimately contributing significantly to economic progress.”

 

The Vice-President praised the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ program and urged all Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and Headmasters to engage youth with this initiative. He noted, “Fifteen million young people have embraced the vision of a developed India. This will transform their mindset, enhance their dedication to nationalism, and fortify our democracy, leading to its prosperity.”

Highlighting the successes of the Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, the Vice-President remarked that the idea of having a toilet in every home in a nation of 1.3 billion once seemed unimaginable, but this has been realized through the Prime Minister’s efforts.

Emphasizing the significant advancements in waste management in India, Shri Dhankhar stated, “India has set a global example. Today, we are generating fuel and energy from waste.”

 

Stressing on the important role of sanitation workers in cleanliness, the Vice-President remarked, “We must salute them, we must hold them in high respect. They are engaged in an extremely solemn activity which is not only significant for society, but also for the planet.”

He further expressed that, “Cleanliness is a service. It is an excellent commitment to humanity. We should embrace it with an open mind. When the whole society works unitedly in this direction, I am hopeful that we will be able to build a clean and strong India, and our journey will be successful.”

Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Power, Shri Avinash Gehlot, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Rajasthan, Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

SWACHHATA HI SEVA 2024 FORTNIGHT LAUNCHED AT PUNGRO

The Pungro Town Council commenced the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign on 14th September 2024, as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation. 

The event was launched at the ADC’s Office, Pungro, Kiphire under the theme “Swabhav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata.” To effectively implement this cleanliness drive, the EAC Pungro, Yitachu Thur has invited the participation of students, NGOs, ward chairmen, stakeholders, and department officials. 

He emphasized that creativity, innovation, and ideas on how to tackle cleanliness issues will not come from outside; they will have to come from within. Every community has its own set of challenges and difficulties, but it also has its own strengths. 

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign in Pungro will continue over the next two weeks, with various activities and programs aimed at ensuring long-lasting change in the town’s cleanliness and waste management practices. 

The campaign includes a large-scale cleanliness drive focused on clearing dry and wet garbage from block spots around town, including the main junction, 6- star junction, the public ground, and the hospital area. Furthermore, drawing and painting competitions have been organized for lower classes, while higher classes will participate in essay writing competitions on the theme “Cleanliness and Plastic Waste Management.”

That’s fantastic! The tree plantation drive led by MoS (HI & Steel) Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Secretary MHI Shri Kamran Rizvi, and Addl. Secretary MHI Shri Hanif Qureshi at Udyog Bhawan is a commendable effort. It’s great to hear that the campaign is also being actively pursued by CPSEs and ABs under MHI, with over 91,000 trees planted so far. 🌳

The campaign will continue until 31st March 2025, aiming to make a significant impact on the environment. Every tree planted contributes to a greener and healthier planet.
