The Government launched the Agnipath scheme on June 15, 2022, to recruit both male and female candidates into the PBOR (personnel below the officer rank) cadre of the tri-services (Army, Air Force, and Navy) for four years as Agniveers. Candidates for the age of 17.5 to 21 years are eligible to apply for the scheme.  

Selected candidates must undergo enhanced basic military training and specialized branch training followed by up-skilling courses, as required. The Agnipath scheme stands as a transformative reform initiative aimed at catalyzing substantial change across various sectors. This scheme provides an equal opportunity to male and female candidates for transforming the Yuva Shakti into Agniveer and provides an opportunity for youth to serve and realize their dream to join Defence as Agniveer and serve the Nation.  

It provides a unique approach for the youth to grow their career, where discipline and management can be learned and well, it can be utilized in the corporate sectors as experienced persons, here everyone believes soldiers cannot be liars, their existence is itself a discipline. 

Agnipath Scheme

It is a beautiful approach to empower youth to join as Agniveer for Initial 4 years and meanwhile, decide yourself to continue as Agniveer or a numerous of option is awaiting for a second career like Joining to the corporate sector, other Govt organization, Businessman, start-up Entrepreneurs, etc. In the training curriculum, Agniveer is trained to adjust to the worst conditions. 

On the completion of four years of service, Agniveer will go back to society as a dynamic, disciplined, motivated, and skilled workforce for employment in other sectors thereby contributing further to nation-building. He may join as a startup and Entrepreneurs. 

The skills gained by each Agniveer will be captured in a certificate to form part of his unique resume. 

Based on the organizational requirements of the armed forces, Agniveer who are completing their engagement period in each batch will be offered an opportunity to apply for the regular employee of the armed forces. 

These applications will be considered in a centralized manner by respective service headquarters based on objective criteria including performance during their engagement period and not more than 25% of each batch of Agniveer will be enrolled in a regular cadre of respective armed forces, post completion of their four years of engagement.

On Completion of the initial engagement of four years, Agniveer will be paid with a one-time “Seva Nidhi” package, which shall be comprised of their contribution including accrued interest thereon and matching contribution from the government equal to the accumulated amount of their contribution including Interest. The “Seva Nidhi” package will be exempted from Income Tax.

Eligibility: Agnipath Scheme

Indian Citizen 

Age Limit. Eligible age will be in a range form from 17 years and six months and upto completion of 21 years. 

Educational Qualification. will be issued from time to time by Armed Forces.

Medical Requirement 

Leave Provide : Agnipath Scheme

Annual leave:  30 Days per year

Sick Leave : On Medical advice

Release at own request

Release at their own request before the completion of the engagement period will not be permissible for Agniveer.  

Pay and allowances : Agnipath Scheme

Individuals enrolled under this scheme will be paid as Agniveer Package of Rs. 30,000/- per month with fixed increments. In addition to Hardship, Travel, and dress allowances. 

Agniveer Corpus Fund : Agnipath Scheme

A non-lapsable dedicated ‘Agniveer Corpus Fund’ will be created in the Interest bearing section of the public Fund. The Fund will be administered and maintained under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence with the following modalities:-

Each Agnieer to Contribute 30% of his monthly customized ‘Agniveer Package’ to the Agniveer Corpus Fund. The Government will provide an interest rate equivalent to PPF A/C.

On Completion of four years of initial engagement, the agniveer will be paid, “Seva Nidhi” package 

In case the individual is selected for regular employment in Armed forces, the Seva Nidhi Package to be paid to them will comprise of their contribution including accrued interest thereon. 

On Exit of four years of engagement, Agniveer will be paid Rs. 10.04 Lakh (excluding interest) interest will be Ads On to it. 

Life Insurance Cover : Agnipath Scheme

Agniveer will be provided with non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs. 48 Lakhs for the duration of their engagement.
